The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection is looking to grow the state’s meat industry.
To help make this happen, the DATCP has opened the application period for the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grants. These grants look to extend Wisconsin’s meat industry by improving the long-term viability of the state’s livestock sector.
In order to be eligible for grant funding, an applicant must operate a meat processing establishment licensed by the DATCP or the U.S. Department of Agriculture and be engaged in livestock harvest or meat processing.
Grants can be awarded up to $50,000 with a limited $700,000 pool to be given out by the DATCP.
On how this program has already positively affected Wisconsin agriculture, DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski said, “By creating the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant program, Governor Evers and the legislature have spurred investment in this important Wisconsin economic driver. The grants have strengthened Wisconsin’s meat industry by assisting processors in modernizing their establishments, improving capacity and throughput, and improving employee retention.”
Applications are due no later than February 23rd and can be found online by visiting datcp.wi.gov.
