Residents in Sheboygan will soon be paying more for services offered weekly by the City.
While the main order of business for the Finance and Personnel Committee at their Monday (January 12th) meeting was voting on a potential Amazon facility coming to Sheboygan, a vote was also held on an increase in recycling and garbage collection fees.
Currently, Sheboyganites pay $4.35 a month for recycling services and $5.65 for trash collection.
However, after a unanimous vote by the Finance and Personnel Committee, residents will pay $4.75 and $6.25 for recycling and garbage services, respectively.
The current fees for residents were implemented in 2012 and have remained unchanged for 13 years.
Reasons for the price hike offered by the Committee include “given economic conditions that have resulted in higher operating costs.”
While city documents show that this change would be effective January 1st, this has not yet been passed by the Common Council, but will go in front of Sheboygan’s Alders for full approval in the near future.
