The City of Sheboygan has received millions in funding from Governor Tony Evers and the Department of Natural Resources.
Sheboygan’s Director of Public Works, Travis Peterson, tells SeehaferNews.com that the city was one of 82 municipalities to receive $484 million through the Clean Water Fund Program.
Sheboygan will be getting over $31 million, which will be used to construct an upgraded wastewater interceptor on the City’s south side.
The interceptor will essentially serve as an underground trunk line, collecting wastewater from smaller neighborhoods on the south side to be efficiently transported to the Sheboygan Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility for proper treatment.
Peterson continues to say that this project has been in the works for some time, with coordination with the DNR beginning back in 2022.
The belief with the project is that it will provide the City with additional capacity to deliver reliable sanitary service to residents, with Peterson noting, “Providing these critical infrastructure improvements ensures the City can continue to protect public health, meet regulatory standards, and deliver reliable services to residents today and in the decades ahead.”
