The Roncalli girls’ basketball team took a trip to New Holstein last night.
Eric Bauer was on the call. In what was a contest between two sides looking for their first win in the EWC, the Huskies took down the Jets 54-31.
Roncalli played some of its best basketball of the season in the first half, thanks to some stifling defense and protecting the ball.
But a late run to close out the first period would have the Jets trailing by two at the break.
However, it was a tale of two halves as New Holstein came out firing to start the second half, thanks to an influx of scoring from freshman Peyton Pickard.
Some second-half turnovers for the Jets, coupled with some stout defense from the Huskies, would prove to be the difference as New Holstein would run away with it in the end.
Roncalli junior Megan Lamers would lead the way for the Jets, scoring 11 points, including three triples, while Pickart and Makenna Bink would each net 14 for the Huskies.
With the loss, Roncalli falls to 0-12 on the year, 0-6 in the EWC. Next up for the Jets will be a road contest at Two Rivers next Tuesday (January 13th).
