Taxpayers in the Two Rivers Public Schools District will see an increase in their property taxes this year.
The District tells SeehaferNews.com that the 2.58% increase is largely due to a 20.07% rise in private school voucher costs from the previous year.
The state’s private school voucher program, funded in part by local property taxpayers, presents challenges for public schools.
As seen in the past decade, the average taxpayer contribution toward vouchers on a $200,000 home has increased from $46.78 to $182.57.
Currently, 13.74% of the total tax levy on property tax bills is due to private school vouchers.
Despite these financial struggles, the Two Rivers Public Schools has stated that they remain committed to fiscal responsibility and to supporting students, staff, and the community.
The District encourages anyone with questions to reach out to the Finance Director Mary Kay Slattery (marykay.slattery@trschools.k12.wi.us) or Superintendent Diane Johnson (diane.johnson@trschools.k12.wi.us) or call them at 920-793-4590.
