Students who want to go to Manitowoc’s sister city can now sign up.
The Manitowoc International Relations Association (MIRA) announced that applications are now available for Manitowoc-area high schoolers to fill out for a chance to go to Kamogawa, Japan.
MIRA says the trip will give student ambassadors the opportunity to experience traditional and popular Japanese culture and the beauty of Japan’s mountains and oceanside while they stay with a host family.
After a student turns in their application, they will be contacted for a personal interview with the MIRA student exchange committee, and will be responsible for round-trip airfare from Chicago to Tokyo, which will cost between $2,400 to $2,800.
Costs also include traveler’s insurance, U.S. passport-related fees, and personal spending money.
This year’s trip takes place July 20th through August 8th. Applications are due by March 6th and must include an essay and two letters of recommendation.
Questions about visiting Kamogawa can be directed to Manitowoc’s tourism department at tourism@manitowoc.org or by calling 920-686-3508.
