A longstanding children’s literacy program is coming to the City of Sheboygan.
The United Way of Sheboygan County has announced that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library will debut in the community on January 19th in celebration of Dolly’s birthday.
The Imagination Library will allow children from birth to age five to receive a free, high-quality book mailed to their homes every month for no cost to their families.
Launched by Parton in 1995, the Imagination Library has spent the last three decades fostering a love of reading and promoting childhood literacy and its benefits later on in life, expanding from East Tennessee to a worldwide program reaching over 3.1 million children.
In order to take part in the Imagination Library, a parent or guardian must enroll their child in the program.
In six to eight weeks, the child will receive their first book, specifically addressed to them, in the mail.
From that point on, a personalized book will arrive in the mail each month until the child’s fifth birthday. At this time, the program will only be available to those living in the 53081 ZIP code.
