
Several local and area high school basketball teams return to the court for the first Friday of the New Year.
The Manitowoc Lincoln boys’ basketball team looks for a third consecutive win as they host Green Bay Preble in an FRCC game at the JFK.
The Ships come into tonight’s game with a record of 1 and 2 in the FRCC and 4 and 3 overall, and are coming off a victory over Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Monday at the Kress Center in Green Bay, and are led by seniors Micah Kubsch and Cade Grapentine.
Kubsch leads the Shipbuilders in scoring, averaging just shy of 21 points per game. He is also shooting a respectable 45 percent from the field, including 35 percent from three-point range and better than 72 percent from the free-throw line.
Grapentine averages 15 points per game and leads the Ships in shooting at better than 49 percent, 42 percent from three-point range, and better than 70 percent from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, senior Jack Bauer is having a good season, averaging better than nine points and three rebounds per game, and leads the Ships in assists at 3.5 per contest.
The Hornets of Green Bay Preble are also 1 and 2 in the FRCC and 5 and 4 overall.
They began the season with three straight wins but have lost four of their last six games.
They rely on balance, having only senior Gavin Sullivan averaging in double-figure scoring at nearly 11 points per game.
They have a deep roster with nine players averaging better than 10 minutes on the floor per contest.
It’s the first of two meetings in 18 days between these two teams and will be broadcast on 1240 WOMT and WOMTRadio.com with coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Other boys contests include Howards Grove at undefeated Kewaunee, Sheboygan North visits Green Bay Southwest, Green Bay NEW Lutheran hosts Valley Christian of Oshkosh, Green Bay East is home for Xavier of Appleton, Green Bay West visits New London, Winnebago Lutheran of Fond Du Lac is at New Holstein, Notre Dame entertains Ashwaubenon, Pulaski travels to Bay Port, Marinette hosts Sevastopol and St. Mary Catholic hits the road to play the Chargers of Wittenburg Birnamwood.
