The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is saying goodbye to a patrol captain who has left his mark on the department.
Captain Rick Tisler officially retired after 32 years in law enforcement, with his last day yesterday (December 31st). Sheriff Dan Hartwig called the day “bittersweet as the department says goodbye to a friend, teammate, and professional.”
Tisler began his journey at the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office in August 1993 as a reserve deputy while also working part-time at the Kiel Police Department and in the Village of Reedsville.
He began full-time law enforcement in 1994 with the Manitowoc Police Department before returning to the sheriff’s office two years later.
Tisler achieved the rank of Patrol Captain in 2024 after previously being promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in May 2018.
Throughout his career, Tisler took on numerous roles, including Snowmobile patrol member, evidence technician, field training officer, impound manager, and PPE manager, among others.
The 32-year captain also served as a liaison between the Fire Association and the Sheriff’s Office while being instrumental in initiating and managing the department’s Speed Board Program.
Sheriff Hartwig finished thanking Tisler for his “unwavering dedication, work ethic, professionalism, and passion for supporting and mentoring those around you. We wish you a healthy, joyful retirement filled with relaxation, new adventures, and quality time with your family.”
