A Menasha man is facing federal charges in a child pornography case.
Brad D. Schimel, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that 20-year-old Zakaria Adam was charged on December 23rd with Production of Child Pornography and Transfer of Obscene Matter to a Minor related to online activity that occurred earlier this year.
The criminal complaint in the case states that between April 15th and 24th, Adam used a popular social media app to communicate with a 13-year-old child from upstate New York.
The 20-year-old would then proceed to send the minor images of his genitalia while also convincing the child to send sexually explicit images in return.
If convicted, Adam faces up to 40 years in prison, up to $500,000 in fines, and would be required to be registered as a sex offender for life.
This case was investigated by the FBI’s Green Bay branch and was brought forward as part of the nationwide Project Safe Childhood initiative.
Adam’s case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble.
