The Manitowoc County Recycling Center is reminding residents about dropping off their natural holiday trees.
They can be brought to the Basswood Composite Site from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
All trees must have all ornaments, tinsel, lights, stands, and storage bags before being dropped off, and if a real holiday tree is more than six feet long, it needs to be cut in half.
The used natural trees could also be chipped into mulch for groundcover and erosion control in landscaping projects.
The mulch could also be placed in loose piles at the edge of woodland to help birds and other wildlife.
City of Manitowoc residents who drop off their holiday tree at the Basswood site could also be eligible for a voucher for a free deciduous tree.
It’s part of the Manitowoc County Recycling Center, assisting the city with its “Tree for a Tree” program.
Residents will need to complete a form at the recycling center’s office, and the voucher will be mailed.
Vouchers can be redeemed from April 24th to May 22nd for a deciduous seedling.
