Bond has been set for a Manitowoc man charged with threatening police officers over the weekend.
71-year-old Michael L. Gruszkowski was present for his bail hearing yesterday (December 29th) as he faces charges of Battery or Threats to a Law Enforcement Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, and Threatening to Cause Bodily Harm.
At yesterday’s initial appearance, Gruszkowski was given a $5,000 recognizance bond by Court Commissioner Patricia Koppa.
Manitowoc Police were called to Rivers Bend Health Services on Saturday evening (December 27th) on a report of a man who was calling for help while possibly intoxicated.
They located the 71-year-old taking a sip from a bottle of whiskey inside a vehicle.
Initially, he denied he had been drinking, but eventually told officers he had been.
When asked, Gruszkowski refused to take a field sobriety test and began resisting arrest.
While being placed under arrest, he was taken to the ground and began threatening to beat up the officers involved, but was eventually transported to the Manitowoc County Jail.
Other terms of his bond include no contact with his arresting officers, and he is to maintain absolute sobriety.
Gruszkowski will return to court on January 26th for a preliminary hearing in Branch 1.
