Kevin L. Hanson, age 68 of Whitelaw, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay following a two-month battle with pancreatic and stomach cancer.
Kevin was born on July 13, 1957, in Albert Lea, MN, a son of the late Chester H. and Florence E. (Wangen) Hanson. He was a 1975 graduate of Spring Grove High School in Spring Grove, MN. Kevin then graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. While in college at La Crosse, Kevin became involved with the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps, which he maintained a relationship with through the years. He was currently President of the Board of Directors for the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps. On July 30, 1988, Kevin was married to Debora Bergel-Kanzelberger at St. Michael Catholic Church in Whitelaw. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2014. Kevin retired as CFO (Chief Financial Officer) of the Forest County Potawatomi. He was a member of the American Institute of CPAs. In Kevin’s free time, he enjoyed golfing, coaching elementary girls’ basketball and traveling with the Blue Stars.
Survivors include one son: Nathaniel Hanson, Whitelaw; one daughter: Teresa Hanson, Whitelaw; one granddaughter: Joy Hanson, Whitelaw; one sister: Lynnette Erickson, Spring Grove, MN; one sister-in-law: Patti Bergel and her special friend Tim Kostechka, Reedsville. He is further survived by nieces and nephews: Melissa Hanson (Jason Leahy), Spring Grove, MN, Corey (Erica) Anderson, Spring Grove, MN, Amanda Bergel, Manitowoc, Kari Resch, Menchalville, Holly Kostechka (Matthew Schenian), Menchalville, Joshua (Brittney) Kostechka, Kaukauna; other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Chester and Florence Hanson; his wife: Debora; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Melvin and Janet Bergel; one brother-in-law: Brian Bergel.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Deacon Randy Jaeckel will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.
