Scammers are once again impersonating some of our local law enforcement officers.
The Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center received numerous calls on Monday (December 22nd) reporting attempted scams from an individual claiming to be affiliated with the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office.
They continued to explain that the caller was calling Sheboygan County residents and demanding money for fraudulent and non-existent citations or warrant fees.
This is just the latest instance of scammers impersonating law enforcement officers, with most departments across Northeastern Wisconsin experiencing similar scams over the past year.
However, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, nor any law enforcement agency, will ever demand payments over the phone.
When such a call is received, you are urged to hang up immediately and call your local sheriff’s office or police department to report the incident.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office can be reached in the event of a scam attempt by calling 920-459-3111.
