A Good Samaritan helped rescue a Kewaunee man from his residence during a fire.
Kewaunee County Dispatch received a call just before 3:00 Tuesday afternoon (December 23rd) reporting smoke coming from a residence in the 1100 block of Ellis Street in the City of Kewaunee.
The caller, who had been driving by the home, stopped to help the homeowner’s son get the 67-year-old man out of the residence.
Both residents were treated for smoke inhalation while fire crews rescued a cat and took down the blaze.
The feline was also given oxygen before being handed over to Kewaunee Rescue.
The fire is believed to have started in a bedroom and is being blamed on smoking materials and pressurized oxygen.
Kewaunee Deputy Police Chief Dustin Smidle noted that the man rescued from the residence “was exposed to smoke for an extended period of time, so we wish him the best.”
