The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reminds state park visitors that they can kick off their new year with a hike.
Several state properties, including Point Beach State Forest in Two Rivers, will have First Day Hikes on January 1st.
The Visitors Center will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for 2026 annual sticker sales and visitor information.
There will be different trail options for short, moderate, or longer adventures along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
However, hikers are asked to respect the forest and shoreline by staying on marked trails, packing all trash, and leaving no trace.
The DNR recommends everyone attending dress in layers and prepare for winter conditions, which could include subfreezing temperatures, lake winds, and snow.
Pack water and a warm drink in a thermos, plus a light snack for those hiking for a longer period.
Point Beach State Forest is located along County Highway O and is normally open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
