A former Ripon basketball coach has been sentenced in a child sex case.
32-year-old Mihai Schnell-Harrison was previously found guilty due to no contest pleas on charges of Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff, Exposing Genitals to a Child, Causing Mental Harm to a Child, and Child Abuse – Intentionally Causing Harm, and was ordered to spend six years in prison.
Judge Tricia Walker also ordered Schnell-Harrison to 11 years on extended supervision.
Schnell-Harrison was arrested in November of 2024 after it was learned that he had sent nude photos to a student while serving as the head boys basketball coach.
The two then met in the parking lot of the school, where they engaged in physical contact.
When he was arrested, Schnell-Harrison told police he believed the student was 18, but they were underage.
