With the Christmas shopping season nearing its end, ThedaCare is reminding parents to make sure they are picking safe and enriching toys for their children.
While selecting toys that your children will enjoy is important, safety should also be a high priority.
Dr. Kevin Gentile, a Pediatrician with ThedaCare Physicians Pediatrics-Neenah, encourages parents to pay attention to the button-sized lithium batteries and small magnets, each of which can be easily swallowed.
Also, if you are giving vintage toys, make sure they do not contain lead or other dangerous substances.
Dr. Gentile also noted, “Toys are the learning tools of childhood,” he said.
“They can bring people together, and that’s so important in this time when young people often opt to isolate with digital and electronic gadgets.”
