Two children have died as a result of COVID-19 and influenza.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services made the announcement yesterday, explaining that it tracks and monitors respiratory viruses year-round to inform health care providers, public health partners, and the public about virus activity and when the risk of illness could increase.
Respiratory Disease Epidemiologist Tom Haupt reminds the public how serious viruses like COVID-19, the flu, and RSV can be and how it’s not too late to protect yourself.
The best option is to get vaccinated, with Haupt saying, “Respiratory vaccines are safe, effective, and the best tool we have to prevent doctor visits, hospitalization, and death for Wisconsinites.”
While it’s important for adults, the DHS encourages everyone aged 6 months and older to get vaccinated.
Expectant mothers who are 32-36 weeks pregnant are also reminded to get a dose of the maternal RSV vaccine to protect their unborn children.
