An Indianapolis man has been found not guilty of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide in a November 2023 shooting at the Viebahn Meadow Apartments in Manitowoc.
It took a jury almost five hours to get their verdict after the trial of 61-year-old Clarence Holder.
However, Holder was found guilty of attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, burglary, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre said in her closing statement this morning that Holder went to Devin Lawler’s apartment to get money he was holding onto while selling THC products and that he purposely shot Lawler in the back.
Holder’s attorney Russell Jones told jurors that there wasn’t enough proven for the attempted homicide charge.
Lawler was able to escape the apartment after fighting with Holder and called 911.
Surveillance video shown during the trial showed Holder purchasing a FedEx envelope in Milwaukee which he used to try and get Lawler to sign to get into his apartment.
Prosecutors also said that cell phone data showed him traveling from Indiana to Manitowoc on the day of the shooting.
Manitowoc Police officers testified during the trial that they found the clothing Holder was wearing during the incident when they went to Indianapolis to search his home.
Holder will be sentenced on March 25th in Branch 1.
He was originally given a $1 million cash bail when he was arrested back in January 2024.
