A Manitowoc councilmember who was appointed to fill a vacancy will run for a seat in 2026.
Alderwoman Jodi Brey announced that she will file nomination papers for candidacy for the position of alderman in Manitowoc’s District 4.
Jodi was first appointed to the council after the passing of her husband, Jim Brey, who passed away suddenly in August.
Jodi explains that when Jim died, she wanted to honor his life of service by stepping into the role while she continued her service as a high school teacher.
However, she tells SeehaferNews.com, “Then I sat in his seat. I learned how dedicated so many city employees are. I learned how it feels to be the person one’s neighbors ask for help. I learned that I knew more than I thought I did and didn’t know nearly as much as I assumed.”
Jodi continues saying that while she’s proud to be able to finish out Jim’s term, she wants the chance of her own to give back to the fourth district.
She finishes by saying with the bottom line of her decision: “Good work is being done here, and I want to help.”
Other candidates interested in running for the Manitowoc Common Council must have their paperwork turned in to the City Clerk’s Office by January 6th.
