
It will be a busy Saturday of local sports.
The Manitowoc Lincoln Girls basketball team look to get back to .500 this afternoon as they travel to Schofield to battle the D.C. Everest Evergreens in a non-conference game.
The Ships scored a big victory Thursday night in handing Sheboygan North just their second loss of the season, 58 to 53 at the JFK in improving to 1 and 1 in the FRCC and 2 and 3 overall.
The Evergreens have struggled so far this season having dropped three of their first four games.
The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Other girls games include Sheboygan Falls visiting Plymouth as part of a girl-boy doubleheader, Sheboygan North hosts Dominican, Kewaskum visits Sheboygan Lutheran, two of the top teams in the state battle in Oostburg as the Lady Flying Dutch host Beaver Dam.
Another girl-boy doubleheader will be played at Peshtigo as the Bulldogs host Oconto Falls, Bay Port travels to Fond Du Lac, Sturgeon Bay hits the road to lay Florence, and Freedom entertains the Menasha Bluejays.
Meanwhile, Plymouth hosts Sheboygan Falls in a boy-girl doubleheader tonight.
The Falcons and Panthers are in different conferences (the Falcons in the EWC and the Panthers in the East Central Conference), but the two schools that are 11 miles apart make it a point to play each other every year.
Both squads have gotten off to a slow start, with the Falcons still looking for their first win, while the Panthers are 1 and 2.
Several area teams are involved in the Baird and Gustman Classic in Kaukauna.
Brillion will play Wrightstown, Ashwaubenon battles host Kaukauna, and Freedom will play Lake Mills.
Elsewhere, Oostburg ventures to Laconia, Hilbert travels to Bowler, Green Bay NEW Lutheran is at Gresham, Gibraltar hosts Florence, and Peshtigo hosts Oconto Falls as part of a boy-girl doubleheader.
There are also several high school wrestling Invitational being held throughout the area today.
Manitowoc Lincoln and Brillion are part of an invitational in Hartford, Manitowoc Lutheran is part of the Brillion Invitational, Two Rivers, Reedsville, and Cedar Grove-Belgium travel to the Forest County Potawatomi Center in Crandon for a meet hosted by the Crandon Cardinals and Mishicot.
Kiel, Denmark, Plymouth, De Pere and Southern Door are at an Invite hosted by Bay Port.
The Manitowoc Lincoln girls’ gymnastics team hosts several teams in their home opening invitational today.
Valders/Roncalli and Sheboygan South are a part of the field with varsity and junior varsity events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The Manitowoc Lincoln boys swimming team hosts the Ships Pentathlon at the LHS pool.
Swimmers from Roncalli/Two Rivers, Sheboygan South, Notre Dame, and Fond Du Lac join the Ships with events scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., and the Roncalli boys’ varsity bowling team travels to Pla-Mor Lanes in Chilton for a match against the Tigers that’s scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
