The City of Two Rivers will continue to receive nuclear energy from the area’s power plant.
The city’s not-for-profit, WPPI, will continue to take 168 megawatts of electrical generation from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant through the 2050s after a new energy agreement with NextEra Energy Resources was approved.
The local agreement comes after the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the plant’s second license renewal in September, keeping Point Beach open for an additional 20 years.
City Manager Kyle Kordell calls the new agreement “a sustainable energy future while preserving an anchor institution that has shaped this community for generations.”
NextEra Energy operates the Point Beach Nuclear Plant, along with three other plants across the United States.
