The Door County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to replace broken headlights responsibly.
Over the weekend, a deputy pulled a vehicle over on State Highway 42 in the dark and discovered something not seen every day.
The driver was missing a side headlight, but instead of replacing it, the person put in a handheld flashlight and pointed it forward as a substitute.
Door County Sheriff’s say while there was an attempt to increase visibility at night, a flashlight is not a safe or legal replacement for proper headlights.
They play a critical role in nighttime visibility and safety. Drivers are encouraged to check their vehicle equipment regularly before they travel.
The department didn’t say which charges the driver faces for the illegal headlight replacement.
