Traffic was backed up for over two hours on Interstate 41 in Outagamie County yesterday due to a jackknifed semitruck.
The Wisconsin DOT announced that I-41 northbound near Wrightstown Road was closed just before 6:00 a.m. because of the accident.
WBAY reports that the interstate was eventually reopened at 10:30 a.m. after it was cleared.
This incident comes as a reminder that you need to drive differently on roads in the winter.
No information on the condition of the semi driver or other vehicles involved in the incident was released.
WisDOT explains that it’s always important to take it slow and allow extra travel time and distance, as most winter crashes are caused by drivers going too fast for conditions.
Sudden braking or steering can also cause someone to lose control, so use the brakes carefully and make sure you use steady pressure to gently steer.
Lastly, it’s also important to keep a safe distance behind a large truck like a semi because not only can they block your view, but large pieces of snow or ice can blow off the top and travel down the highway, or could hit a vehicle right behind them.
