Manitowoc Lincoln’s boys basketball team looked to even their record when they welcomed Menasha to the JFK last night.
In a high-scoring affair, the Ships were able to come out victorious, beating the Bluejays 85-81.
The first half got off to a bit of a shaky start for Lincoln, who found themselves down early; however, they were able to rally behind strong first-half performances from seniors Cade Grapentine and Micah Kubsch to take a one-point, 39-38 lead into half.
The second half started just as did the first, with Menasha going on an early run to lead by seven thanks to some hot shooting behind the arc from Tayden Wilke, who knocked down four second-half triples. Grapentine and Kubsch kept it rolling in the second period, but Jaquan Foth and Colton Thorison stepped up off the bench to provide Lincoln with a much-needed spark.
In the second half, the game turned into a testy, back-and-forth contest; however, Kubsch’s game-leading 29 points proved to be too much for Menasha to handle, leading to a win for the Ships.
Grapentine would finish with 18 of his own while Wilke led the way for Menasha, finishing with 25.
With the win, Manitowoc Lincoln moves to 1-1 on the season and will next be in action on Monday for another home contest against Green Bay West.
