A fire over the weekend has claimed a farm tractor in Fond du Lac County.
The Alto Fire Department was called on Friday (November 28th) on a report of a tractor on fire inside a barn on Lake Maria Road in the Town of Alto.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed black smoke bellowing from the roof of a shed and a sliding door on the structure’s east side.
The heat from the blaze caused the shed’s roof to buckle, preventing any firefighters from entering to fight the flames.
For this reason, all operations took place from outside of the building, and a hole was cut in the side of the shed to reach the burning tractor more easily.
A MABAS box alarm was activated but was shortly called off before the additional responding agencies arrived on the scene.
All initial emergency response crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours to extinguish the fire and ventilate the shed.
The tractor inside has been deemed a total loss, while the shed sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage, but no dollar amount was readily available.
Additional first responders on scene included the Waupun and Brandon/Fairwater Fire Departments, Lifestar EMS, and RIT District 3.
