Customers of a major utility provider in Wisconsin will be paying more every month over the next two years.
Following an approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC), Alliant Energy will be hiking both monthly electric and gas bills for hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites in 2026 and again in 2027.
When Alliant originally submitted this price increase to PSC, they envisioned a 5.4% increase to electric rates in 2026 and another 5% in 2027, amounting to a $202 million revenue increase.
However, Wisconsin Public Radio reports the PSC approved just a $144.1 million electric revenue increase for Alliant Energy.
This hike in prices will cost Alliant customers approximately $9.57 a month on their energy bills next year and $17.45 in 2027, compared to the monthly bills paid this year.
This amounts to an 8.22% increase in 2026 and a 14.98% increase in 2027.
Regarding these price hikes, David de Leon, president of Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin energy company, said, “The settlement filed with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin reflects the collaborative effort among stakeholders to advance Alliant Energy’s commitment to provide cost-effective, reliable energy to customers.”
While hoping to offer cost-effective utilities, monthly costs will continue to rise for their customers for years to come.
