The Manitowoc Police Department is reminding drivers to take it slow today (November 27th) after a busy night of car accidents.
Lieutenant Tyler Hill tells Seehafernews.com that officers responded to 18 total accidents last night, none of which were serious.
Some people were involved in accidents, while some vehicles had trouble getting up hills and down roads due to snow and ice formed by the rain earlier in the day.
Hill says it’s still slippery on the streets, so it’s essential to drive more slowly and leave extra space in front of you.
The speed limit on a street is acceptable when driving conditions are good, not when snow and ice blanket it.
Manitowoc’s Department of Public Works did go out and put down salt to try to help thaw the roads, but Lieutenant Hill explains that some side streets could still be a bit slick.
Yesterday’s (November 26th) weather also led to the cancellation of the Lakeshore Holiday Parade.
Mayor Justin Nickels tells Seehafernews.com that because of all the work officers were doing, it wasn’t possible to close Washington and 8th Street to start the parade.
It will be made up later, but it will not happen this week.
Seehafernews.com will announce the makeup date when it becomes available.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office also dealt with an accident on US Highway 10 westbound at County Road W near Reedsville yesterday afternoon.
