As Thanksgiving approaches, local fire officials continue to be thankful for residents who practice safe cooking practices.
Each year, countless homes, garages, and burnt birds are claimed by individuals frying their Thanksgiving turkey, and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department is offering safety tips to avoid disaster.
First and foremost, never fry a turkey inside your home or garage.
Also, make sure the fryer is placed on a level surface, and avoid moving it once it’s in use.
Before dropping your turkey, know for certain that it is completely thawed and that you have not overfilled your fryer with oil.
If a fire does break out while frying your turkey, do not attempt to put it out using water; simply shut off the gas immediately and call 911.
The fire department also urges residents to keep children and pets away from the fryer at all times.
Lastly, local fire officials want those celebrating Thanksgiving to consider purchasing an infrared fryer, air fryer, or electric turkey dryer.
Following these easy tips can prove to be the difference between delicious and disaster this Thanksgiving.
