As the Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) continues design plans for two of its middle schools, they are also looking to make changes inside the classroom as well.
The planning and design phase to remodel and rebuild Farnsworth and Urban Middle Schools is nearing completion, but the district is also working hard to address the academic, developmental, and social needs of its students.
One way they have done this is by leaning on practices endorsed by the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE).
Last month, educators at all three of the SASD middle schools completed AMLE’s Successful Middle School Assessment, and the results from that assessment will further inform how the district meets the unique needs of its middle schoolers.
Additionally, the three district middle school principals, Lindsay Ohlfs of Horace Mann, Joe O’Brien from Urban, and Todd Debruin of Farnsworth, attended the national AMLE Conference earlier this month to further their ability to ensure their students’ success.
After the conference, Principal Ohlfs said, “It reaffirmed the amazing work our district and our middle school staff have already worked hard to implement in our building and left me feeling excited to bring new ideas back to our students, staff, and community.”
