This week was a big one for Senator Andre Jacque.
The New Franken legislator had six bills pass in the Senate, including his measure aimed at extending the statute of limitations for 2nd Degree Sexual Assault.
Currently, investigators have ten years to charge an individual accused of this crime, but Senate Bill 413 would double that to 20 years.
Sen. Jacque noted that the current statute of limitations is “one of the shortest time frames for this type of offense in the nation,” and added, “Advances in forensic science, including DNA analysis and digital evidence like cell phone data, now give investigators far greater ability to identify offenders even many years after a crime occurs.”
Also advancing was a measure to declare November as Veteran Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Month.
Sen. Jacque said this designation is a “small but meaningful step that we can take to show our support and commitment to the well-being of those who have served in uniform.”
Sen. Jacque’s name is also on the joint resolution to condemn the abduction of Ukrainian Children, which he said has been prevalent since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In total, nearly 20,000 abductions have been confirmed, with U.S. Intelligence estimates suggesting the number could be over 200,000.
Sen. Jacque also called on “our colleagues at every level of government to keep pressure on the Russian Federation to put an end to this genocidal program and ensure that every Ukrainian child is reunited with their family.”
