The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is urging safety ahead of the opening of one of the busiest hunting periods of the year.
Statewide, the nine-day gun deer hunting season officially opens on Saturday (November 22nd) and will remain open until November 30th.
As thousands are expected to participate, the DNR is reminding hunters and non-hunters alike to put safety first during the gun deer season.
During all gun hunting seasons in Wisconsin, all hunters are required to wear clothing that is at least 50% blaze orange or fluorescent pink from the waist up, while all hats or hoodies worn must follow the same requirements.
Likewise, the DNR encourages the non-hunting public and their pets to wear some form of hi-vis clothing or collars if they plan on recreating on public lands during the nine-day season.
Furthermore, virtually all injuries sustained during firearm hunting season can be attributed to a violation of one of the four basic firearm safety rules or TAB-K.
