Senator Andre Jacque’s effort to reform school funding is getting bipartisan support in Madison.
Assembly Bill 354, which was written by the New Franken Senator and Omro Assemblyman Nate Gustafson, unanimously passed the Assembly Committee on State Affairs.
The measure looks to adjust the way schools receive state aid, as currently, districts get four installments of various amounts.
The first installment of 15% arrives in September, a second and third payment of 25% come in December and March, and the final 35% is paid in June.
Assembly Bill 354 aims to change each equalization aid payment amount to 25%.
Sen. Jacque calls the bill a “common-sense adjustment” and that it “effectively puts more money into Wisconsin classrooms by reducing the need for short-term borrowing.”
This bill has the backing of a large number of statewide educational groups, including the Wisconsin Education Association Council, the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, and the Wisconsin Association of School Administrators.
The measure is now headed before the full Assembly,
