The court process for two of the four people arrested in connection to an Outagamie County child abuse case is being delayed.
Walter Goodman and Kayla Stemler were in court yesterday (November 20th), where Goodman’s attorney asked for some more time to get him prepared for the court process, as his legal counsel had just been assigned on Monday.
He will be back in court on January 5th for his preliminary hearing. Stemler, meanwhile, still has no legal representation and had her preliminary hearing rescheduled to December 2nd.
The duo are facing charges, alongside Walter’s wife Melissa Goodman and her daughter Savanna LeFever, are facing child neglect charges after police discovered Goodman’s 14-year-old daughter was severely malnourished.
She was taken to a hospital where she was said to weigh 35 pounds.
A GoFundMe set up to support the teen says she has made significant physical and emotional progress, growing three inches, doubling her body weight, and has relearned basic self-care routines.
Melissa and LeFever are both set to appear in court today.
