Manitowoc’s state representative in Madison is still trying to get a new lemon law for defective farm equipment.
The bill authored by State Representative Paul Tittl would require authorized dealers or manufacturers to repair farm equipment if a buyer’s farm equipment under warranty is defective.
It would require a full refund or replacement if it meets certain standards.
However, Rep. Tittl explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program on Monday (November 17th) that he’s had to make some compromises, specifically, on how the law would be enacted.
A group didn’t want to disclose the bill as a lemon law.
“And I go listen, I’m not hiding your lemons for you,” he stated. “I was flabbergasted that they wanted me to hide their lemons for them and say, ‘no you don’t have to disclose it.’ And so I compromised and I said ok, fine, we’ll do farm equipment above $100,000 will have to be disclosed.”
The bill is still being worked through the Wisconsin Assembly, although there was a public hearing in the Wisconsin Assembly Committee on Agriculture last month.
State Senator Andre Jacque of New Franken is working to pass the bill in the Wisconsin State Senate.
