Manitowoc Public Utility Electricity rates will be going up.
MPU filed for an electric rate case with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) in May this year, asking for a $6.04 a month increase for a residential customer using 600 kilowatt-hours.
The public utility explains that the increase is necessary because transmission expenses are about 30% higher than in a 2023 test year, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin used in MPU’s last rate case.
The PSCW is also expecting inflationary increases in utility provider expenses, along with lower sales volume than originally forecast.
The lower sales volume is partially offset by reduced power costs due to fewer sales, but the cost of power supply market purchases has increased as well.
MPU says the electric rate increase is still lower than that of other public utility companies in the area.
