A plea has been entered for the alleged shooter in a Sheboygan Falls homicide.
36-year-old Luis E. Cruz Burgos was inside a Sheboygan County courtroom yesterday (November 17th) for his arraignment as he faces one count of First-Degree Reckless Homicide for the deadly shooting that took place on September 24th.
At yesterday’s hearing, Cruz Burgos entered a not guilty plea to the lone charge he faced, meaning he will be heading to trial, but a trial date is yet to be set.
The 36-year-old was arrested two days after 32-year-old Michael Giovanni Robinson, a Canadian international, was shot and killed in the 600 block of Monroe Street in Downtown Sheboygan Falls.
The Sheboygan Falls Police Department investigation included witness interviews, GPS tracking data, and surveillance camera footage review, all of which led to Cruz Burgos.
While Robinson’s official cause of death was ruled a gunshot wound to the chest, no shell casings or a firearm were ever located on scene, in Cruz Burgos’ vehicle, or at his residence in the Town of Sheboygan.
However, Sheboygan Falls Police investigators concluded that Cruz Burgos was in the area where the shooting took place, completing an order as a DoorDash driver, in a vehicle that matched the description of the alleged shooter who witnesses said fired a single fatal round from the driver’s seat.
While no trial date or pretrial conference has been set, Cruz Burgos will return to Sheboygan County court for a scheduling conference on January 20th.
Until then, he remains in custody in the Sheboygan County Jail on a $2 million cash bail.
