Some area county recycling projects and initiatives have earned awards through the Wisconsin DNR.
Winners of the 2025 Wisconsin Recycling Excellence Awards were announced in honor of America Recycles Day, which happened last Saturday (November 15th).
One group awarded was the Calumet County VFW Post 3153, which created a plastic bag and film recycling program through the company Trex Inc. in Chilton.
The program has helped recycle nearly 12,000 pounds of plastic from various businesses, stores, homes, schools, and the public library.
The plastic is then loaded into a trailer by a team from the VFW post and taken to Festival Foods in Fond du Lac. In recognition of their efforts, a bench made entirely from recycled plastic was donated to the City of Chilton.
Other areas awarded included The City of De Pere, Destination Door County, the First United Methodist Church of Neenah-Menasha Green Team, the Oshkosh Correctional Institution, and Tri-County Recycling for Brown, Outagamie, and Winnebago Counties.
The Wisconsin DNR has presented the awards for the past 13 years.
