Crime in the City of Sheboygan has seen a dip compared to this time last year.
Last week, Sheboygan’s Police Chief Kurt Zemple presented the 2025 third quarter crime benchmark data to the Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee, showing that, overall, crime numbers are down.
This year, crimes against persons, such as murder, sex offenses, both forcible and non-forcible, and aggravated assault, have fallen, as 40 fewer such crimes have occurred thus far in 2025.
However, crimes against property have seen a slight uptick this year, with robbery, theft, and motor vehicle thefts up while burglaries and arson are down.
In total, 466 crimes against property have taken place in 2025 compared to 454 in 2024.
Despite this slight increase, the overall crimes against persons and property are down in 2025, which Chief Zempel saw as an encouraging sign for the City.
Other data from the Chief’s report included a drastic drop in traffic tickets handed out by the Sheboygan Police Department so far this year, with 3,154 issued in 2025 compared to 8,352 issued through September 30th of 2024.
