The Manitowoc County Recycling Center reminds residents about American Recycles Day, which is tomorrow (November 15th).
Operations Manager Jon Reisenbuechler says it’s a nationally recognized day designed to build awareness of recycling and its benefits while encouraging people to recycle correctly.
Recycling helps reduce emissions of greenhouse gas and water pollution, as well as helps people save energy, supply manufacturing materials, creates jobs, and reduces the need for new landfills.
Reisenbuechler encourages residents to review recycling guidelines for the county’s curbside program or local drop-off site.
Since the early 90s, 58,000 tons of solid waste per year have been put in a landfill in Manitowoc County.
That number has dropped to about 30,000 per year because of recycling and waste reduction efforts.
Last year, there were 3.9 million pounds of paper and cardboard and 553,000 pounds of plastic bottles recycled through the local recycling center.
