A man who was living in Manitowoc County is going to prison for continuously sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl from Outagamie County.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin explains that 59-year-old Rodney A. Hanes will spend 25 years in prison, followed by life on supervised release, after he pleaded guilty to child enticement and producing child pornography.
Attorney Richard Frohling says, according to court records, Hanes, who was previously convicted of felony sexual assault in 1995, met the 14-year-old victim on Snapchat.
The 59-year-old subsequently picked up the victim at night near her home, took her to a parking lot, and sexually assaulted her.
For the next seven months, Hanes continued to sexually assault the victim in Outagamie and Brown County, including after hours at his workplace.
Frohling also states that methamphetamine was also given to the female victim, plus numerous pictures and videos of the sexual assaults were captured on Hanes’ phone.
In January this year, the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office got a tip, immediately investigated it, and arrested Hanes at his workplace.
Federal Judge William Griesbach emphasized the severity of the 59-year-old’s conduct by targeting a child, and that a lengthy prison term was needed for punishment.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, which tries to prevent the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation.
