The leader of a large-scale drug ring in Brown County is heading to prison.
48-year-old Felton Currie appeared inside a Brown County courtroom on Monday (November 10th) for a sentencing hearing after originally being charged with 28 drug and firearm-related offenses.
On Monday, Currie was ordered by Judge Samantha Wagner to spend 40 years behind bars, followed by 30 years on extended supervision.
In June of this year, the 48-year-old and prosecutors reached a plea deal that resulted in him being found guilty of 15 of the charges he faced, including numerous counts of Manufacturing or Delivering Fentanyl and Cocaine, Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
FOX11 reports that five search warrants were executed in Brown County, along with the raid of a stash house in Chicago last summer, which resulted in the arrest of Currie and six others tied to the multi-state drug trafficking operation.
In total, those search warrants resulted in the seizure of 12 kilograms of fentanyl.
For perspective, two milligrams is considered to be a lethal dose of fentanyl, while one single kilogram contains 1 million milligrams, meaning this drug bust took 6 million lethal doses of fentanyl off the streets of Brown County and Chicago.
Additionally, four kilos of cocaine, 748 grams of methamphetamine, 460 grams of heroin, and 16 guns were also recovered.
In total, 47 individuals are facing charges related to the drug operation led by Currie.
