Funding from the Wisconsin DNR will support improvements in some eastern Wisconsin natural areas.
Over $100,000 from the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoor Fund will be supporting six habitat projects on public lands this year, including in Fond du Lac and Ozaukee counties.
About $15,600 will be allocated to the Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit to support the first phase of a multi-year project to improve habitat at and around the Ice Age Visitor Center Complex.
That includes removing plants like glossy buckthorn and poison ivy.
In Ozaukee County, $20,000 in grant funding will help the Friends of the Cedarburg Bog State Natural Area to remove buckthorn.
The DNR says the projects represent high-priority habitat restoration work from across the state, and the selected projects enhance wildlife-dependent recreation and support conservation of rare species.
The Cherish Wisconsin Outdoor Fund will also support projects across southern Wisconsin, as well as in Wood County, northern Wisconsin.
