
Lisa Vihos, Sheboygan's inaugural Poet Laureate
The City of Sheboygan is looking to continue celebrating creative expression throughout the community.
Mayoral Assistant Cati Pudner tells SeehaferNews.com that the City is now accepting applications for their next Poet Laureate.
Established in 2020, the role of Sheboygan Poet Laureate “celebrates creative expression, cultural understanding, and civic engagement through the literary arts.”
The Poet Laureate will serve in the role from January 2026 through January of 2029 and will be officially appointed by Mayor Ryan Sorenson.
They will also be encouraged to create and share original work, participate in public events, and promote poetry throughout the community.
Lisa Vihos, the City’s inaugural Poet Laureate, has held the role since 2020, meaning the next awardee will be the second ever to hold the position.
To be eligible to be the next Poet Laureate, applicants are required to live in Sheboygan, and publication in a book or poetry collection is preferred.
Those interested in serving as the next Poet Laureate in Sheboygan are required to submit applications by no later than 11:59 p.m. on November 24th.
