A local State Assemblyman recently held an emergency food drive as the federal government shutdown continues to threaten FoodShare benefits.
26th District Assemblyman Joe Sheehan held the emergency food drive on Friday (October 31st) at the Sheboygan Elks Lodge #299 in direct response to the Trump Administration’s decision to illegally withhold Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds from millions of Americans, including thousands of Sheboygan County residents.
As food scarcity rises, Rep. Sheehan stated, “I’m thankful for the great turnout of selfless Sheboyganites who came out with over 1,000 lbs. of shelf-stable items to donate to the Sheboygan County Food Bank. I am incredibly proud to be a Sheboyganite and represent this beautiful community that helps those in need. When our community sees something that is wrong, we band together to help fix it.”
Since the food drive, a court order ruled that the Trump Administration’s decision to withhold SNAP benefits this month was unlawful; however, uncertainty persists as President Trump continues to say on social media that he will withhold the funding despite the court order, while his White House Press Secretary says they will follow the court order.
