The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating a deadly crash in Marinette County.
The crash happened in the City of Niagara at 1:11 p.m. yesterday (November 5th) in the 1000 block of Main Street.
An officer with the Niagara Police Department tried to make a traffic stop, but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed before swerving into traffic and hitting a commercial vehicle.
The DOJ says aid was rendered immediately to the person, but they were later pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was injured.
The law enforcement officer involved was placed on administrative leave as is policy with DOJ investigations.
The Department of Criminal Investigations is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of the incident before it will be turned over to Marinette County prosecutors to see if any criminal charges will be filed.
The Wisconsin State Patrol, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, and Niagara Rescue and Fire Department are also assisting in the investigation.
