An inaugural lecture series at Lakeland University was kicked off last month with a discussion on intimate partner violence (IPV).
The first-ever Lakeland University Faculty Lecture series was hosted by Aimee Burns-Boisvert and entitled, Creating Safer Communities: Conversations on Intimate Partner Violence.
The discussion was cosponsored by other Sheboygan area organizations, including the United Way of Sheboygan County and Safe Harbor.
The lecture included data that says over 1.5 million women are assaulted each year, while one in six women and one in 19 men experience stalking, and one in four women and one in seven men experience physical violence from an intimate partner.
Burns-Boisvert also revealed that it takes an average of seven attempts for a survivor of IPV to successfully and safely leave a violent relationship.
While just the first in the Lakeland Faculty Lecture series, these lectures aim to allow a member of the university’s team to share information and discussions on areas of expertise in a forum that not only benefits the campus but the wider community as a whole as well.
