A month-long campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence has come to an end in Sheboygan County.
Nationally, October was recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to honor this, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County joined the Every 1 Knows Some 1 campaign, which aimed to empower people to come together to address the domestic violence epidemic.
While October has come and gone, the work of Safe Harbor is never-ending, especially in Wisconsin, where domestic violence-related deaths remain a growing problem.
On this growing issue in our state, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County Executive Director Deborah Lee said, “Wisconsin now ranks seventh in the nation for domestic violence homicides. Survivors are showing up with extraordinary courage every day, and now more than ever, it’s on all of us to meet that courage with action, awareness, and unwavering support.”
Data from End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin shows that domestic and family violence accounted for 110 deaths in Wisconsin last year, two of which occurred in Sheboygan County.
This means that in 2024, two Wisconsinites died every week due to domestic violence.
While National Domestic Violence Awareness Month is now over, Safe Harbor of Sheboygan County continues to work every day to end domestic violence and create safe, healthy communities for everyone.
