
Manitowoc Lutheran and St. Mary Catholic faced off with a trip to the WIAA State tournament on the line, and the teams did not disappoint.
The Zephyrs took set one 25-20, but the Lancers fought back with a vengeance.
Manitowoc Lutheran took sets two and three in dominating fashion, 25-16 and 25-15.
Undeterred, St. Mary Catholic took the fourth set 25-19, forcing a winner-take-all fifth set.
With Chilton High bursting with energy, the Lancers put the nail in the coffin and punched their ticket to their second straight state appearance with an 18-16 win in the final set.
Manitowoc Lutheran is looking to repeat as state champions, having won the Division Four title a year ago over Regis (Eau Claire).
The seedings for the tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay will be announced on Sunday. The Lancers will be playing at 8:00 a.m. on Friday in the Division 3 state semifinals.
